February is Peace and Conflict Resolution Month for Rotary International and Rotarians, led by Carl Greiner and Kim Kuhle, will gather to discuss Lincoln's Second Inaugural address. Moniki Gunn-Cannon, Director of the Step Up Omaha!
PRESENTATION: Step Up Omaha! Is one of the largest programs in Omaha that is closing the employment gap by investing in tomorrow’s workforce. This is a program of the Empowerment Network that works in collaboration with Mayor Jean Stothert and the City of Omaha. Moniki will share information regarding the success of this program, and explain how local companies can utilize this resource to add to their own summer workforce.
BIO: Moniki Gunn-Cannon is the Director of the Step Up Omaha! Program for the Empowerment Network. She is also a national speaker, development coach and consultant with Gunn & Cannon Empowerment Group where she focuses on helping people and teams increase their performance. Prior to starting Gunn & Cannon Empowerment Group, Moniki was a District Human Resources Manager at Kiewit Corporation where she was also trained as a Certified Gallup Strengths Performance Coach. John Philo introduced new member Tony Schultz, and Kendall Scheer introduced returning Omaha West Rotarian Bob Kardell. Michelle Schrage received her Blue Badge from her Rotary sponsor Yolanda Hoffman. Brett Wawers sponsored the visit of 10 members of the Future Business Leaders of America from Skutt Catholic High School. Deb Neary hosted and introduced our speaker OPS Superintendent Cheryl Logan. Last week, Kendall Scheer introduced returning Omaha West Rotarian Bob Kardell. He left Rotary years ago due to a work transfer. Bob Recently joined the Goosmann Law firm as a cybersecurity attorney after retiring from the FBI after 26 years. Bob was born and raised in Omaha but has lived Chicago and Washington, DC. He is married to Mary Lynn Riley for 25 years, and they have three children. Welcome back to Omaha West Rotary!
Last Week, John Philo introduced Tony Schultz as a new member. Tony is the General Manager of Perkins Properties, a commercial Real Estate company. Tony is active in the community through his volunteer and service club activities: Member of Third City Sertoma 16 years, Third City Sertoman of the Year 2011, President 2008/2009, Hall County Convention and Visitors Bureau Board Chair 2018, Grow Grand Island Executive Board 2016-2018, Junior Achievement Volunteer Teacher, ABCDD Girls Softball Volunteer Coach. After completing the requirements for transferring Rotarians, Michelle Schrage received her Blue Badge from her Rotary sponsor Yolanda Hoffman. Michelle was one of the key movers of the inaugural Bloody Mary Jazzfest, a new fundraiser for our club in November 2018. For good news Bob Lovren’s wife recently had a successful hip replacement. Tara Bowne and her husband are expecting a baby girl! Carl Greiner’s daughter Alison was just promoted. And Bob Kully announced that author Joe Starita (Warrior of the People) will be speaking to our club in March.
While we have negative temperatures in Omaha, Nizar Mamdani, Bill Sutton, and Mike Shrier decided to have a Rotary satellite meeting in warm and sunny Florida with one agenda, that is to celebrate Bill Sutton's birthday.
