Last week, President Jill Slupe presided the meeting. Tara Bowne gave the Invocation. Tara thanked Rotarians for their support during this difficult time for her and her family. Irv and Gail Veitzer served as greeters. Lori Benton was Sgt. at Arms. Ric Miller was Cashier. Warren Whitted was Chair of the Day and he introduced our speaker Former Congressman Brad Ashford.
The 11th Annual Golf Scramble chaired by Butch Ethington was a huge success. We had a total of 10 foursomes and it was a great social event for the club while raising funds for the Omaha West Rotary Foundation. The Raffle Drawing will be held at our weekly meeting on September 7th. Special thanks to Butch and the Golf Committee this year for organizing the event. Here are some photos from the event. You can view more photos on our Facebook Page here.

For our surprise visitor last week, a lot of you had submitted guesses such as Warren Buffet and Bill Cutler. Wrong. It was the Skyhawk from our Partner school Skinner Magnet Center. Don Otis did an awesome job of promoting the Rotary Readers Program at Skinner with the aid of the Skyhawk, aka Gretchen Radler. Thank you Gretchen for "sweating it out." Please contact Don at donaldotis@me.com for more information about our Rotary Readers Program.
Omaha West Rotary Club Secretary Report for August 24, 2018:
This past Friday, we had several guests! Visiting Rotarians included Phil Schreier from Northwest. Colin Breathnach from Bellevue. And David Handley from Lincoln 14. We also had a number of guests including Bamby Slupe, Jill’s mom, from Arizona. Deb Sepich brought her husband, Gordon. Tara Browne was joined by her husband Ryan. And Matt McKeever brought along his colleague Spencer Werth.
We had several red badge members in attendance. We also had our club board members stand to be recognized.
For good news: Randy Parks mentioned that the Blair Rotary club is having an Octoberfest on October 13th. Bill Sutton shared the tale of the legendary 101 yard shot from “TV Henry” Kammandel. Matt McKeever sold his house for a good price thanks to Team Wiebusch. Matt even made enough from the sale to buy a new suit from Dick Lerner. Henry Kammandel reminded everyone about the JDRF walk on 8/25. Bob Kully was thankful to make it to our Rotary golf tournament after having car problems in Kearney on his way back home form Keystone Colorado. Carl Philo is celebrating his 49th wedding anniversary! John Philo is taking his parents to the Glacial Till Vineyard in Ashland to celebrate. Martie Cordaro said that Werner Park is hosting an ALS walk on Saturday. The Storm Chasers are also entering there final homestead of the season; which will mark the completion of 20 seasons for Martie! John Morey’s wife is returning from Russia and John is looking for “volunteers” to help get the house back in order. Call John to schedule a time. Finally, Deb Sepich shared the name of her new grandson – Bennett Lee!
Nick closed with a joke and wished everyone a good weekend.
The Omaha West Rotary is participating in a multi-club project called Hotel/Motel Project, which seeks to eliminate and prevent sex trafficking by educating those in the hospitality industry to realize it is happening and training them on how to respond. Our club Foundation has approved up to $3,000 to support the project. This project is now underway and we need your support. Sign up to help Rotary fight human trafficking by training hotel/motel employees. See the flyer here. Please email jennifer@suburbanrotary.org or call 402-397-7335 to sign up. Read more here.
