REMINDER: We are meeting at QLI this Friday 3/23/2018, Not at Champions
A friendly reminder that we are meeting at QLI to bring Rotary to our Past President Kent Templien. As you all know Kent was in an ATV rollover accident four months ago.  He was hospitalized, first in Lincoln and then Omaha.  He is now at QLI in Omaha undergoing rehabilitation.

We will meet at the Lied Life Center Auditorium on QLI’s Rehabilitation Campus  located at 6320 N 70th Plaza, Omaha, 68104.  QLI will have signs up pointing the way, and you can park anywhere in front of the building or in front of the Colladay Center.  You can also park along the outside of the circle drive around campus if needed.  QLI's main phone number is 402-573-3700 if you need to call for directions.

QLI will provide complimentary lunch and if you have not registered yet, please register now by clicking here.

Director of Creativity, Quality Living Inc. (QLI)

BIO:  For so many of our clients at QLI, the road to emotional recovery after an injury, catastrophic or otherwise, can be such a long and challenging road.  Jon Pearson is a leading authority nationally on the topic of emotional recovery, having built and led QLI’s innovative and forward thinking Life Path Services program for the past two decades. At QLI, Jon and his team have impacted the lives of hundreds of clients and families every year who are recovering from some of the most severe injuries: including brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and individuals living with chronic pain by helping them begin the acceptance process and learn to rebuild a sense of purpose and passion in their lives.  This unique approach and a natural ability to connect and lead has made Mr. Pearson an in-demand speaker both regionally and nationally.

Jon holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Psychology with a recreation emphasis from Bemidji State University.  Aside from his rehabilitation experience and expertise, Jon is a unique and versatile talent. He is an accomplished blues musician, a professional photographer, and an experienced business and leadership consultant.

About QLI: QLI is a post-hospital residential rehabilitation facility for individuals who have sustained brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, chronic pain, physical disabilities, and other central nervous system dysfunction. More information about QLI can be found here.

Matt McKeever Secretary Report 3-16-18
Omaha West Rotary Club Secretary Report for March 16, 2018

This past Friday at Omaha West Rotary,  Laura Thomas joined us again from the E-Club of the Carolinas and Brett Frevert joined us from Downtown Rotary.  Assistant District Governor Ron McKeever from Norfolk Rotary and his wife, Dottie McKeever, also joined us.   Kim Kuhle introduced her guest, Josh Rauner.  Denny Duer introduced his two guests, Mohamed and Nawaf, International Program students at the University of Nebraska – Omaha.  Gail Veitzer introduced us again to her husband, Irv Veitzer.

Plenty of good news to share today!  Matt shared good news that his parents, Ron and Dottie McKeever, joined us for lunch.  Kim Kuhle and Laura Thomas also shared good news.  It was good news from Bev Karrer when she shared that she was out of the hospital and had recruited interesting speakers for April such as former NFL Quarterback for New York Giants and Minnesota Vikings Sage Rosenfels.   Vaughn Wiebusch said hello to the McKeevers and also announced his fellowship event at his home on May 10, 2018. Kari Hannan and Martie Cordero announced the collaboration between the Ronald McDonald House and the Omaha Storm Chasers and the hundreds of families they helped together.

For fines, Kim Kuhle got Matt fined for a Bitcoin article.  The luck of the Irish spared the Club when Matt warned the Club that any Rotarians not wearing their lapel pins were off the hook today, but at the March 30, 2018 meeting they could be fined.  Matt then told the story he did not have time to tell last week about the young farmer, the farmer’s father, a pastor and the fallen bales of hay.
Kari Hannan Recognized Martie Cordaro

Kari Hannan,  Development Director for the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Omaha, presented President Nominee Martie Cordaro of the Omaha Storm Chasers with a collage of photos from their involvement with the House. The Omaha Storm Chasers provided 150 nights of "a home away from home" for a family traveling to Omaha to seek life-saving medical treatment for their child in one of our area hospitals inclusive of warm beds, hot showers, nutritious meals, and laundry facilities - all essentials of home. Thank you Martie and the Omaha Storm Chasers!
Dan Ferris , Past President & March Program Chair
Announcement: We are meeting at QLI on March 23rd. Mark your calendars as this is one of a kind meeting.

On March 23rd we have decided to support our fellow Rotarian and immediate past president, Kent Templien by holding our Friday Rotary lunch at Quality Living Inc., 6404 N 70th Plaza, Omaha, NE 68104.  Kent is a resident at QLI and loves the idea of us bringing Rotary to him.   The guest speaker will be Jon Pearson, director at QLI.

QLI is providing lunch at their cost.   In return, we will ask for voluntary contributions to QLI, certainly not mandatory.  But we do need to have everyone sign up in advance so that we know how many to plan for. Please register here.

Club Vision Statement
We are a service organization with projects that support education and building understanding locally, nationally and globally.
Rotary Leadership Institute - Get More Out Of Rotary
How to engage members . . .
Making our projects more successful . . .
Understanding the value of The Rotary Foundation . . .

When asked what participants want to get out of Rotary training and meetings, we hear things like the statements above.
Meeting all of those needs is a challenge - but there is an answer – the Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI).

RLI has been available in District 5650 since 2006. The curriculum and format were improved in 2009 and we expanded to partner with District 6000 in Iowa in 2012. There have been nearly 275 Rotarians participate in our local program.

Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) was designed to provide discussion and activity-based programs.  There is time to go into detail on many topics.  It is not focused on a particular Rotary position but allows an opportunity for participants to truly discover Rotary.

All Rotary members benefit from the RLI experience.  Rotary Club leadership can be more effective because of their expanded knowledge and connections made during RLI sessions.

RLI is a three-part program. Each RLI participant attends three one-day sessions. Our goal is to offer each Part with every meeting date (pending a sufficient number of registrations).

Upcoming session dates:
March 3, 2018 - Hosted by District 6000 in Iowa City
April 21, 2018 - Hosted by District 5650 likely in Omaha
October 6, 2018 - Hosted by District 5650 likely in Omaha
November 3, 2018 - Hosted by District 6000 likely in Des Moines

Registration and Details: rli-heartland.org
