Meeting re-cap 6/2/17 
Last week Bill Sutton gave the invocation. We had several presentations and a new member introduction.   Dwayne Brown introduced Dough Rothgeb of Big Canvas Improv Comedy and Dwayne and a few other Rotarians got in on the fun trying out some improvisation.  The Bucks for Bingel pot was at $30 and Kent Templien won the chance to draw.   
 
Next Friday at Rotary 
Nathan Morgan- The Big Garden- Urban Food Deserts.  Nathan Morgan is executive director of the Big Garden, a program of United Methodist Ministries.  He oversees a network of more than 70 community gardens in Nebraska, Iowa, and Kansas.  As Director, Morgan recruited and implemented 15 new garden sites, managed the Big Garden's partnerships with other organizations, and served on the interim leadership of the Metro-Omaha Food Policy Council. Morgan also raised significant funding for the Big Garden through grant writing. He also graduated from the Nonprofit Executive Institute through the Nonprofit Association of the Midlands. A native of south Alabama, Morgan has lived in Omaha for 13 years. His educational background includes degrees in Geography and Library Science. His background also includes organizing faith communities around poverty issues and helping rural schools integrate gardens and greenhouses into their science curricula. Nathan, along with his wife and 2 daughters, is an active member of First United Methodist Church in Omaha. 
Welcome Back Jim Olfason! 
Last week Kendall Scheer reintroduced us to returning member Jim Olafson. Jim is a Sales Executive with The Harry A. Koch Co, an insurance brokerage firm.   Jim was previously a member of West in 2013 and is rejoining us after moving back from Colorado. Jim is a graduate of UNO and has spent most of his life in Omaha.   He is married to Michelle and they have an adult daughter.  Welcome back, Jim! 
 
 
Rotary Foundation Recognition
Congratulations and thank you to the following Rotarians who were recognized for their generosity to the International Rotary Foundation last week by John Philo and Kent Templien:
 
Dean Jenkins and Larry McChesney were recognized as Paul Harris Fellows +1  for their donations of $2000
Tim Riewer was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow+2 for his donations of $3000

2017 DISTRICT CONFERENCE:  THE POWER OF ONE
District Conference 2017 will be held Friday night, August 11th at the Omaha Community Playhouse and Saturday, August 12th at the Creighton University Harper Center.
